As parents, it’s difficult to know how to communicate with your child about potentially dangerous choices. What are the right questions to ask? What information do they need? How can you assess the risk and create a partnership of trust and respect? A discussion of ideas, facts, and strategies for parents.


Julie Metzger, RN MN is a pediatric nurse, writer and educator.  For over 25 years she has worked with families of teens and pre-teens on topics of puberty, sexuality and decision-making. She is also co-founder of Great Conversations – focused on health education for families.

julieJulie Metzger, RN MN is a pediatric nurse, writer and educator. For over 25 years she has worked with families of teens and pre-teens on topics of puberty, sexuality and decision-making. She has shared her program Heart to Heart For Girls Only to tens of thousands of families sponsored by Seattle Children’s Hospital throughout the Puget Sound region, and by Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University throughout the Bay Area and soon expanding to Portland Oregon.


Julie has also written and presented health curriculums on decision-making and friendships for middle and high school students. She brings a wealth of knowledge from her experiences, is a well-respected and popular speaker on a wide range of parenting issues, worked in many capacities as a nurse at Seattle Children’s Hospital and is a parent of 3 young adults.


Julie and her colleague Dr. Rob Lehman are co-founders of Great Conversations – focused on health education for families. Their book, “Will Puberty Last My Whole Life?” was published in the spring of 2012 and Julie published a workbook/journal for preteen girls in 2014 titled “This is Me – a Journal for Girls”.
