How VARSA Works
The coalition model aligns a group of organizations that come together for the purpose of gaining more influence than individual organizations can achieve on their own. From a community organizing perspective, the reason to spend time and energy building a coalition is to amass the capacity necessary to do something we can’t do alone.- Chuck vanNorman, VARSA Chair
Complex issues, such as underage drug and alcohol use prevention, often require large numbers of people and many resources to be effective and to generate cultural change.
As a Community Coalition, VARSA assists each sector to work more effectively, expanding the understanding and experience of members, and providing opportunities for leaders to develop their expertize. By participating in our Alliance the community can learn from others, acquire new skills, and have opportunity to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of our Island's youth.
What our organization looks like
VARSA is comprised of an Executive Officers, a Fiscal Agent, a full-time Coalition Coordinator, seventeen voting Sector Representatives, standing and ad hoc committees, work-groups, and general membership.
